From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some of the health and wellbeing campaigns running nationally and worldwide.
The PPG would like to highlight the following campaigns in November:
- World COPD Day on 20 November 2019: COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) affects 1.2 million people in the UK, and millions more have COPD but don't even know it. You can find out more on the British Lung Foundation website.
- Alcohol Awareness Week from 11-17 November: Alcohol Awareness Week is a chance for the UK to get thinking about drinking. This year the theme is Alcohol and me, running from 11-17 November 2019. It's a week of awareness-raising, campaigning for change, and more. Find out about the campaign and how to get involved on the Alcohol Change UK website.
- Self Care Week from 18-24 November : Self Care Week is an annual national awareness week that focuses on embedding support for self care across communities, families and generations. See the Self Care Forum website for resources.
- Movember (all month): an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. Visit the Movember website for information.
You can get involved and raise awareness by talking about the campaigns, tweeting or sharing on social media, or by donating and pledging your support.
The PPG would also like to remind you to attend Whitehills for your flu vaccination. If you cannot manage on your allotted date and time, you can attend one of the "mop up days" on 23 November 2019 from 8am to 6pm or 18 January 2020 from 8am to 12 noon. View our Flu Clinics announcement.
About the PPG
The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.
You can make a difference to the Practice too! To get involved or find out more about the work and how the PPG assists the practice and you, the patient, see the Academy Medical Centre PPG page. Notes of our meetings are also available to give you a real flavour of what we're doing.
