From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some health and wellbeing campaigns.
The PPG would like to highlight the following campaigns and issues in December:
- National Grief Awareness Week (2-8 December): The aim of this campaign is to try and normalise grief and get people talking about this typically uncomfortable subject on a national platform. The vision is to offer a toolkit of support from DAY ONE for anyone suffering a bereavement, anywhere in the country. Read more at nationalgriefawarenessweek.org, and share using the tag #SHAREYOURSTORY.
- Alcohol Awareness: While Alcohol Awareness Week was last month, the website for this campaign at alcoholchange.org.uk has lots of useful information, including units of alcohol in common drinks and the survival guide to drinking. It also gives advice on the effects on a persons mental health. Another useful site is drinkaware.co.uk.
- Sexual Health: Lots of people have questions about sex and sexual health, relationships and pregnancy, and the Sexual Health Scotland site pulls together the most common ones. Visit: sexualhealthscotland.co.uk. You can also find out more about sexual and reproductive health on the NHS Inform website, which includes a guide to sexual health during the coronavirus outbreak.
Remember, if you do need to speak to a doctor do not hesitate to ring your team for advice and assistance.
You can get involved and raise awareness by talking about these campaigns and issues, tweeting or sharing on social media, or by donating, fundraising and pledging your support.
About the PPG
The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.
You can make a difference to the Practice too! To get involved or find out more about the work and how the PPG assists the practice and you, the patient, see the Academy Medical Centre PPG page. Notes of our meetings are also available to give you a real flavour of what we're doing.
