From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some of the health and wellbeing campaigns running nationally and worldwide.
The PPG would like to highlight the following campaigns in July:
- Sickle Cell Awareness Month (all month): Sickle Cell Awareness Month celebrates the achievements of those who live with sickle cell and raises awareness across the UK. Sickle cell disorders are a group of illnesses which affect your red blood cells. Sickle cell is a genetic condition, which means it is passed on from your parents and you are born with it. Share using the tag #WorldSickleCellDay. Find out more at www.sicklecellsociety.org.
- World Hepatitis Day (28 July): This annual campaign is about raising awareness across the world to find the "missing millions". Worldwide, 290 million people are living with viral hepatitis unaware. Without finding the undiagnosed and linking them to care, millions will continue to suffer, and lives will be lost. You can share using #WorldHepatitisDay or find out more on the website at www.worldhepatitisday.org, where there are campaign materials to download.
- Talk to Us - Samaritans Awareness Month (all month): The annual awareness-raising campaign for the Samaritans, using the tag #TalkToUs. If you are having a tough time, you don't have to face it alone - call them free at any time, from any phone: 116 123. Or visit their website at samaritans.org. You can also email email@example.com for a response within 24 hours.
There are no new minutes as the PPG committee have not met as a group, not even virtually. We hope to bring you more updates when we resume. However, keep checking the practice website for any changes that may affect you.
About the PPG
The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.
You can make a difference to the Practice too! To get involved or find out more about the work and how the PPG assists the practice and you, the patient, see the Academy Medical Centre PPG page. Notes of our meetings are also available to give you a real flavour of what we're doing.
