From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some of the health and wellbeing campaigns running nationally and worldwide.
The PPG would like to highlight the following campaigns in June:
- Carers Week (8 to 14 June 2020): Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring by highlighting the challenges that carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
- Men's Health Week (10 to 16 June 2020): Led by the Men's Health Forum, the purpose of Men's Health Week is to raise awareness of preventable health issues and encourage men and boys to seek professional advice for health-related problems. You can tweet about Men's Health Week using the tag #menshealthweek.
- Cervical Screening Awareness Week (15 to 21 June 2020): Around 3,200 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in the UK each year. More than half of cases in the UK are diagnosed in women aged 45 or under. Cervical screening is the most effective way of preventing cervical cancer across the UK. Find out about Cervical Screening Awareness Week.
The PPG would also like to draw your attention to the National Wellbeing Hub for people working in health and social care.
Some leaflets may not be available due to no PPG members attending to the desk due to the current climate.
Update from the surgery: Dr Barry has now left to take up a post in Montrose and Dr Twinn has joined the practice.
Remember, if you do need to speak to a doctor do not hesitate to ring your team for advice and assistance.
About the PPG
The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.
You can make a difference to the Practice too! To get involved or find out more about the work and how the PPG assists the practice and you, the patient, see the Academy Medical Centre PPG page. Notes of our meetings are also available to give you a real flavour of what we're doing.
