March Awareness Campaigns

promoting health and wellbeing

From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)

Posted: 5 March 2020 · Practice news

Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some of the health and wellbeing campaigns running nationally and worldwide.

The PPG would like to highlight the following campaigns in March:

  • No Smoking Day (Wednesday 11 March): an awareness campaign that encourages smokers to quit using cigarettes, to raise awareness of the health risk of smoking and to celebrate those who have kicked the habit in the past. The campaign began in 1984 and is now organised by the British Heart Foundation.
  • Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month 2020: eleven women die every day from ovarian cancer. The main aim of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month is to raise awareness of symptoms and make sure that more women are diagnosed earlier. For more information see Target Ovarian Cancer, Ovarian Cancer Action and The Eve Appeal. On those sites you will find information about the signs, symptoms and fundraising opportunities.

You can get involved and raise awareness by talking about the campaigns, tweeting or sharing on social media, or by donating, fundraising and pledging your support.

Watch out for the Spring PPG newsletter coming out soon. You will find copies in the foyer, waiting room, reception desk and online.

There is to be a Fundraiser at the third sector community health hub on Monday 16 March from 2-3 pm. Do come along to view the organisations present and buy a treat. The charity will be revealed on the day. The cake and candy fundraiser has been cancelled; however, the Third Sector Health Hub event will still go ahead in our waiting room as a drop in between 2 - 3.30pm.

About the PPG

The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.

You can make a difference to the Practice too! To get involved or find out more about the work and how the PPG assists the practice and you, the patient, see the Academy Medical Centre PPG page. Notes of our meetings are also available to give you a real flavour of what we're doing.
