From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some of the health and wellbeing campaigns running nationally and worldwide.
The PPG would like to highlight the following campaigns in May:
- Sun Awareness Week (6th-12th May): the aim of this week is to raise awareness for the dangers of long exposure to the sun, and to promote safety when outside. You can read more about the campaign on the British Association of Dermatologists website. For further information about sun exposure, please see:
- Sun awareness leaflets and posters for download from the British Association of Dermatologists
- Sun, UV and cancer from Cancer Research UK
- Sunscreen and sun safety from NHS.UK
- Deaf Awareness Week (4th-10th May): many organisations participate, each promoting their own work within the broad spectrum of deafness, as explained by the UK Council on Deafness, the national umbrella organisation. You can visit those individual organisations via their member list.
- Anaphylaxis Awareness Week (4th-10th May): the Anaphylaxis Campaign, who support people at risk of severe allergies, are running social media campaigns, and also invite people to complete a family Marathon in May (with social distancing observed!).
Remember, if you are at all worried about those issues above and any other health issues please still contact the surgery or NHS 24 on 111.
The PPG committee are not holding any meetings just now.
About the PPG
The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.
You can make a difference to the Practice too! To get involved or find out more about the work and how the PPG assists the practice and you, the patient, see the Academy Medical Centre PPG page. Notes of our meetings are also available to give you a real flavour of what we're doing.
