Seasonal Flu Vaccination

Planning for the seasonal flu campaign has been taking place over the summer months and it has been agreed through negotiations with Scottish Government, Tayside Health Board and GP representatives that general practices will only vaccinate two specific groups of patients.

The two groups we will be vaccinating at Academy Medical Centre are:

• patients aged 70 years and over (as at 1st September 2021)
• those patients who are clinically extremely vulnerable (who would shield for Covid purposes)

If you fall into either of these groups, you can now book your appointment with us. You can book online at https://www.academymedicalcentre.co.uk/booking-online.htm (where you can also register for online booking, if you haven't already done so). If you're unable to book online, please call the practice after 11am to request an appointment.

Clinics start from Tuesday 21 September 2021 and will run regularly for the next few weeks.

Other age and risk groups, i.e. those patients aged 65-69 years, 18-64 years at risk, unpaid carers, health and social care professionals and those patients in residential care, will be vaccinated via central clinics and information about this for these groups will follow soon.

Patients who are housebound will also be contacted by the Community Vaccination Team shortly.

School children aged 5-17 will continue to be vaccinated at school.

These arrangements are similar across all GP practices, and we would be very grateful if the patients in age groups under 70 years and other at-risk groups could wait until they are contacted by the central vaccination team rather than calling the practice to make enquiries as our staff have no additional information at the moment.
