From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some health and wellbeing campaigns.
The PPG would like to highlight the following campaigns in May:
- Deaf awareness: many organisations participate in Deaf Awareness Week in May, each promoting their own work within the broad spectrum of deafness, as explained by the UK Council on Deafness, the national umbrella organisation. You can visit those individual organisations via their member list. Please note that the surgery has access to BSL interpreters when required.
- Sun awareness: hopefully the weather will improve soon, but the aim of this annual campaign is to raise awareness for the dangers of long exposure to the sun, and to promote safety when outside. You can read more about the campaign on the British Association of Dermatologists website. For further information about sun exposure, please see:
- Sun awareness leaflets and posters for download from the British Association of Dermatologists
- Sun, UV and cancer from Cancer Research UK
- Sunscreen and sun safety from NHS.UK
- Asthma awareness: find our more on the Asthma UK website and please follow guidelines on the practice website regarding your asthma review or give the practice a phone.
You can get involved and raise awareness by talking about the campaigns, tweeting or sharing on social media, or by donating, fundraising and pledging your support.
About the PPG
The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.
You can make a difference to the Practice too! To get involved or find out more about the work and how the PPG assists the practice and you, the patient, see the Academy Medical Centre PPG page. Notes of our meetings are also available to give you a real flavour of what we're doing.
