From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some health and wellbeing campaigns.
The PPG would like to highlight the following campaigns in June:
- Dementia Awareness Week (31 May to 6 June 2021): Reflecting on the devastating impact, and true experience, of coronavirus on the dementia community, this Dementia Awareness Week explores 'Hidden voices, Hidden impact, Hidden cost'. Alzheimer Scotland has blogs, podcasts and articles. LGBT Health and Well-being have also published a LGBT Dementia toolkit and Proud to Care report
- Carers Week (7 to 13 June 2021): Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring by highlighting the challenges that carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
- Falls Awareness: Falling as we get older is quite common, and although most falls don't cause serious injury they can leave us feeling quite distressed. The good news is there are lots of things you can do to stay steady on your feet. Find out more on the Age UK website and on NHS Inform.
- Cervical Screening Awareness Week (14 to 20 June 2021): Join in to shout about the importance of cervical screeing, de-mystify cervical screening results and reduce confusion about HPV. Find out about Cervical Screening Awareness Week from Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust.
The PPG encourages all to have the COVID vaccinations when invited. Keep in touch on Facebook, Twitter and the website for up-to-date information.
About the PPG
The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.
You can make a difference to the Practice too! To get involved or find out more about the work and how the PPG assists the practice and you, the patient, see the Academy Medical Centre PPG page. Notes of our meetings are also available to give you a real flavour of what we're doing.
