November Awareness Campaigns

promoting health and wellbeing

From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)

Posted: 17 November 2021 · Practice news

Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some health and wellbeing campaigns.

The PPG would like to highlight the following in November:

  • Lung Cancer Awareness Month: The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, the only UK lung cancer charity dedicated to helping everyone affected by the disease, is raising awareness that anyone can develop lung cancer. Men and women, young and old, smokers and non-smokers. If you have lungs, you can get the disease so it is very important everyone is aware of lung cancer signs and symptoms. Find out more about lung cancer signs and symptoms at NHS Inform: Lung Cancer and The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Early diagnosis of lung cancer can make a big difference, so speak to your GP if you have any symptoms or concerns.
  • Men's Health Awareness Month (Movember): Awareness of some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention. Find out more about these at the Movember UK website.
  • COPD Awareness Month: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease describes a group of lung conditions that make it difficult to empty air out of the lungs because your airways have been narrowed. Use the use the #COPDMonth and #BreatheBetter hashtags to raise awareness, and visit NHS Inform: COPD for more information, including hints and tips for living well with the condition.

Please consider using your pharmacist, physiotherapist, and other health professions to meet your health needs.

You can get involved and raise awareness by talking about the campaigns, tweeting or sharing on social media, or by donating, fundraising and pledging your support.

About the PPG
