March Awareness Campaigns

promoting health and wellbeing

From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)

Posted: 28 February 2023 · Practice news

Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness about health and wellbeing.

The PPG would like to highlight the following campaigns in March:

  • NO SMOKING DAY on 8 March: You will find various ways to help with this at Today is the Day and on NHS Inform, and also from the practice, your pharmacy or even your usual supermarket. Cutting down on smoking reduces risk of many diseases such as heart disease, strokes, lung diseases and cancers.
  • Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month: Ovarian cancer is the 5th most common cancer amongst women. For more information about the symptoms and treatments see Ovarian Cancer Action and The Eve Appeal. You can also find out more at NHS Inform: Cervical Cancer. Share on social media with the tag #OvarianCancerAwarenessMonth
  • Kidney Disease (World Kidney Day is 9 March): Kidney disease is a common disease. Find out how to improve your kidney health at National Kidney Federation or NHS Inform: Chronic Kidney Disease, and read more about World Kidney Day.

You can get involved and raise awareness by talking about the campaigns, tweeting or sharing on social media, or by donating, fundraising and pledging your support.

About the PPG

The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.

You can make a difference to the Practice too! To get involved or find out more about the work and how the PPG assists the practice and you, the patient, see the Academy Medical Centre PPG page. Notes of our meetings are also available to give you a real flavour of what we're doing.
