From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some health and wellbeing campaigns.
The PPG would like to highlight the following campaigns in June:
- Falls Awareness: Falling as we get older is quite common, and although most falls don't cause serious injury they can leave us feeling quite distressed. The good news is there are lots of things you can do to stay steady on your feet. Find out more on the Age UK website and on NHS Inform.
- Dementia Awareness Week (29 May to 4 June 2023): This year, the slogan is "One thing, not everything" with the aim of raising awareness of the stigma people with dementia continue to face, with a particular focus on those facing it earlier in life - dementia is just one thing about a person, it's not everything. Alzheimer Scotland has blogs, podcasts and articles, and information about the Angus Dementia Resource Centre. There's a new dementia centre at Stathmore Cricket Club - information is in the last newsletter and also on the practice Facebook page.
- Carers Week (5 to 11 June 2023): Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. Visit Angus Carers for information and support.
- Cervical Screening Awareness Week (19 to 24 June 2023): The week aims to highlight the importance of regular cervical screening for women’s health, so share your experience of cervical screening on social media with the hashtag #LetsTalkScreening. Find out about Cervical Screening Awareness Week from Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and there's information about cervical screening on NHS Inform.
You can get involved and raise awareness by talking about the campaigns, tweeting or sharing on social media, or by donating, fundraising and pledging your support.
About the PPG
The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.
You can make a difference to the Practice too! To get involved or find out more about the work and how the PPG assists the practice and you, the patient, see the Academy Medical Centre PPG page. Notes of our meetings are also available to give you a real flavour of what we're doing.
