From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some health and wellbeing campaigns.
The PPG would like to highlight the following campaigns in August:
- LGBT+ health and wellbeing: LGBT HEALTH awareness promotes the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, LGBT+ adults. Visit www.lgbthealth.org.uk, www.lgbtyouth.org.uk or www.stonewall.org.uk. Our LGBT+ Health and well-being section is designed to signpost and support people within the LGBT+ community and allies. Whilst our LGBT+ section is a start, we would welcome feedback or information that could be helpful to people. Any suggestions are most welcome. The practice continues to review policies and procedures, along with training opportunities to ensure we provide a helpful, supportive service.
- World Breastfeeding Week (WBW): Breast feeding week runs from 1-7 August to promote public awareness of the importance of breastfeeding from mother and child both physically and emotionally. Visit NHS Inform: Breastfeeding, Breast Feeding Network and worldbreastfeedingweek.org where you will find lots of interesting ways to promote, access and practice breastfeeding.
You can get involved and raise awareness by talking about the campaigns, tweeting or sharing on social media, or by donating, fundraising and pledging your support.

The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.
