From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some health and wellbeing campaigns.
The PPG would like to highlight the following in November:
- Men's Health Awareness Month (Movember): Awareness of some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, lung cancer, skin cancers, and mental health and suicide prevention. Find out more about these at the Movember UK website and also nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/.
- Lung Cancer Awareness Month: Anyone can develop lung cancer, men and women, young and old, smokers and non-smokers. Please be aware of lung cancer signs and symptoms. Find out more about lung cancer signs and symptoms at NHS Inform: Lung Cancer and The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Early diagnosis of lung cancer can make a big difference, so speak to your GP if you have any symptoms or concerns.
- COPD Awareness Month: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease describes a group of lung conditions that make it difficult to empty air out of the lungs because your airways have been narrowed. Use the use the #COPDMonth and #BreatheBetter hashtags to raise awareness, and visit NHS Inform: COPD for more information, including hints and tips for living well with the condition.
You can get involved and raise awareness by talking about the campaigns, tweeting or sharing on social media, or by donating, fundraising and pledging your support.
About the PPG
The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.
You can make a difference to the Practice too! To get involved or find out more about the work and how the PPG assists the practice and you, the patient, see the Academy Medical Centre PPG page. Notes of our meetings are also available to give you a real flavour of what we're doing.
