Community comes together for Academy Medical Centre Open Day
Over 300 local residents came together for Academy Medical Centre's Open Day, celebrating the wide range of health, wellbeing and community support available across the area.
Visitors enjoyed meeting representatives from more than thirty local organisations, charities and community groups, discovering services designed to help people stay active, independent and connected. Demonstrations, health walks, dancing, CPR sessions, ‘behind the scenes’ tours and family activities ensured there was something for all ages throughout the afternoon.
The event was officially opened by Rhona Guild, a former senior nurse and primary care manager with longstanding links to local healthcare and community services.
The practice was pleased to welcome local MSP Dawn Black, who spent considerable time visiting the exhibitors and talking with clinicians, volunteers and community organizations, reflecting the strong local support for initiatives that bring health and community services together.
Practice Manager, Teressa Forbes, said:
“We were absolutely delighted by the fantastic turnout. The day was all about bringing people together and highlighting that good health isn't just about visiting your GP when you're ill - it’s about knowing what's available within your own community to help you stay well.”
She continued:
“We're incredibly grateful to all of the organisations, volunteers and staff who gave their time to make the event such a success. It was wonderful to see so many conversations taking place and new connections being made.”
The practice hopes the event will encourage even more people to make use of local services that support physical health, mental wellbeing and healthy lifestyles.
