Job Vacancy: MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week
SALARY: £25,141 (depending on experience)
We are looking for a motivated and adaptable individual to join our team in a primarily medical receptionist role, with scope to support basic secretarial and administrative tasks when required. This position is key to ensuring smooth patient flow and providing essential support to our clinical and management teams.
Key Responsibilities
Reception Duties (Primary Focus)
- Welcome patients and visitors politely and professionally, ensuring privacy and dignity are maintained.
- Handle incoming telephone calls and respond to queries from patients, carers, staff, and external organisations, escalating where appropriate.
- Process appointment requests (face to face and by phone) while managing clinician schedules efficiently.
- Assist the Practice Manager with day to day administrative tasks as required.
- Process repeat prescription requests in line with practice guidelines.
- Manage incoming and outgoing mail and emails according to practice procedures.
- Maintain accurate patient records and update information when necessary.
- Communicate effectively with clinical staff and external healthcare teams to support continuity of care.
- Provide cover across all reception positions as needed.
Administrative & Basic Secretarial Support (Secondary Focus)
- Provide routine typing support for letters, reports, referrals, and other documents as required.
- Assist with organising and maintaining secure filing and record keeping systems.
- Support clinicians and management with straightforward administrative tasks that complement the reception role.
Educational & Development
- Participate in Personal Development Plan reviews and annual appraisals.
- Attend all mandatory training and maintain accurate training records.
- Contribute to developing and implementing new ideas that improve patient experience and practice efficiency.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a medical receptionist is desirable; secretarial experience beneficial but not essential.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and primary care processes is an advantage.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
- Proficient IT skills, ideally with experience using Vision, Docman, iGPR, Lexacom or similar systems.
- Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
